Purpose based leadership

a unique approach

I believe traditional leadership approaches to be limited and limiting. They are too often preventing rather than enabling success, change and transformation. They are too often focusing on leaders (role and person) at the cost of leadership (purpose, process and action). They are too often strangling rather than liberating innovation. In response, I offer you, your team and organisation a clear alternative: purpose based leadership.

This unique approach provides the following:

(1) an increased individual and team ability to make a difference through the development of energy, purpose, identity, and courage together with others (EPICally MAD);

(2) a shift away from focusing on leaders and followers to a focus on creating, facilitating, and sustaining organisational purpose, alignment, and commitment (The PAC approach).

The approach - focusing on leadership as a verb and something we do rather than something we are - is heavily influenced by design thinking principles. Principles such as understanding the needs of those we serve; defining problems before solutions; the inclusion of diverse mindsets; and the testing and iteration of ideas.

It is further supported by my Telos Leadership Lens (TLL), emphasising the following:

(a) Leadership is a responsibility of the many, not a privilege of the few;

(b) Leadership is the collective pursuit of delivering on purpose;

(c) Leadership purpose is to be guided by internal goods (what is best for most).

In addition to my full-time professorial position, I am available for complementing roles (up to 20%), and as such, have extensive experience working with both private and public sector organisations, over shorter and longer periods.
